Julia Smillie is a national award-winning freelance writer and editor. She is a feature writer, essayist and former columnist whose work has appeared in national publications, online and anthologies. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Julia now lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with her husband Chris Carey, veteran business investigative reporter and founder of Sharesleuth.com.

Julia is currently dabbling in the world of fiction writing after a 15-year absence, but is kind of shy about talking about it. She isn't, however, shy about her involvement as a volunteer writing teacher at 826 Michigan, a non-profit tutoring and writing lab for kids.
