Julia Smillie is a national  award-winning freelance writer and editor. She is a feature writer, essayist  and columnist whose work has appeared in consumer and trade publications nationwide, including Kiki Magazine, Self, Oxygen, St. LouisMagazine, St.  Louis Design Magazine, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, The  Commonspace, Lifestyles,  Go Plus! Magazine,  Bliss, The Knot, Cancer and Careers, La Salud Hispana, 52nd City and many others. In addition, her essay “Mother Anger,” was anthologized in "Pissed Off: Finding Forgiveness on the Other Side of the Finger" by Spike Gillespie.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Julia now lives in Ann  Arbor, Michigan, with her husband Chris Carey, veteran business  investigative reporter and founder of
Sharesleuth.com.

Julia occasionally teaches writing workshops at 826  Michigan, which provides free writing labs and tutoring for kids.

Recently, she has returned to writing fiction after a 15 year absence and is currently, very slowly, at work on her first novel.
